Kastria Redux: Doctor Who TNEA - Episode 62

Kastria Redux
Doctor Who TNEA - Episode 62

Ace continued staring out of the hatch. Outside, night had fallen long ago and day would never come.

In their way, the rearing structures were beautiful. Sloping geometries, monolithic blocks, crystalline superstructures... This had been a mighty civilisation. One of those rare ones Ace had seen that had stumbled on to a single great thing, one big idea, and just kept right on going, endlessly reiterating, endlessly cycling from primitive to industrial to baroque technological to rococco and back to primitive... But always gaining on entropy, stepping a few more paces ahead, growing in power and knowledge...

But not wisdom. Clearly, not wisdom.

The planet was totally dead. Sterilised, first by unholy energies from a war of radio-isotopes, and then again from cold so deep that even its silicon-based ecology froze. It was a little like Ice Planet, if that's what the Professor- the Doctor meant. She heard his strange voice, part Scots, part... alien- speaking from behind her.

"Kastrians. Cold by nature, but not this cold of course, yeah... Magnificent in their way. Aggressive, naturally. Very forward thinking in some respects. But in the end... Entropy won. It always will when your only answer is to fight it. Fighting always fails in the end. Sometimes you have to make alliances, compromise, live and evolve, that sort of thing."

Whatever further musings the Doctor might have shared were interrupted at that point.

A new voice rang out in the corridor.

"Who the bloody hell are you two and where the devil have you come from?"
